Update: Sinkhole Swallows Seffner Man Sleeping In Bed

Update: Sinkhole Swallows Seffner Man Sleeping In Bed

Officials are on the scene and believe the man is dead.
2 of 3
BRANDON, FL -- A local man is believed to be dead after being swallowed by a sinkhole Thursday night, Feb. 28.
Jeffrey Bush, 36, was asleep in bed around 11 p.m. when the ground opened up beneath his home at 240 Faithway Dr., Seffner, and swallowed him, said Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokesman Larry McKinnon.
"It's a movie scene behind there," said McKinnon. "That's what it is."
McKinnon said Bush's mother was asleep in another room when she heard a loud crunching sound. When she rushed to her son's room, she saw that the entire floor had caved in and her son was gone.
Bush's younger brother, Jeremy, 34, said he could hear his brother screaming from inside the hole. He dove in, trying to find his brother as the hole continued caving in.
Deputy Douglas Duvall arrived on the scene and was able to grab Jeremy Bush before he was engulfed as well.
At a press conference, an emotional Jeremy Bush talked about his efforts to save his brother.
"We heard a loud crash. I ran in there. I heard somebody screaming, my brother screaming. And I ran in there and all I could see was this big hole, all I could see was the top of his bed. I didn't see anything else. So I jumped in the hole and tried digging him out. And I couldn't get him out. All I could hear was him screaming, hollering for me. I couldn't do nothing."
Jeremy Bush said he didn't think twice about risking his own life to help his brother.
"I didn’t care. I just wanted my brother," he said.
Officials are now searching the 100-foot-wide and 50-foot-deep sinkhole for signs of life.
Neighboring homes have been evacuated by authorities although the sinkhole is confined to only the Bush home.
The family says the home has never had an issue with sinkholes.
There were five people in the home at the time, including a 2-year-old child.
"It's a giant cavern," said McKinnon.
Patch is now on the scene where a press conference has just concluded.

Report: Flacco, Ravens agree to six-year, $120.6 million contract

Report: Flacco, Ravens agree to six-year, $120.6 million contract

PUBLISHED 15 hours and 55 minutes ago
Text size A A A
Joe Flacco, who led the Baltimore Ravens to a Super Bowl win last month, has agreed to a new six-year, $120.6 million contract with the team, making him the highest paid player in the NFL, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer was first to report the news Friday.
Flacco's deal gives him an average of $20.1 million per season, or $100,000 more than the average annual value of New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, who signed a five-year, $100 million deal last July.
Flacco, when reportedly reached by NFL.com writer Jason LaCanfora, said he has not been in contact with his agent, Joe Linta, on Friday and is unsure if the deal is done.
However, NFL reporter Adam Kaplan tweeted that he was able to reach Linta, who told him: "While I was in flight earlier today, the Ravens verbally agreed to all of our terms. However, Joe and I have not received the contract back to review. Once we get the contract and review it (assuming there are no issues), Joe will sign it."
News of Flacco’s deal comes just days after Patriots QB Tom Brady agreed to a restructured deal that is less than market value for a star QB. His cap number over the next five years of his contract is roughly $14 million. In comparison, Drew Brees signed a five-year, $100-million deal last year that made him the NFL's highest paid player at $20 million per season. That would carry an average of a $20 million cap hit each year, though the deal is far more cap friendly to start the pact.

Flacco played out his rookie contract last season for $6.76 million, leading his team to a win in Super Bowl XLVII over the San Francisco 49ers and earning MVP honors. On his way to his first Super Bowl, he beat the Texans, Broncos and Patriots—each team had at least 12 wins in 2012. In the four playoff games, he had 11 touchdowns and no interceptions. He also holds the record for playoff road wins with six.
The 28-year-old Flacco is the only quarterback to win a postseason game in each of his first five pro seasons.
Before the Super Bowl, Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti expressed confidence that Flacco would be the Ravens' quarterback of the future.
"We've never lost a great, great franchise player from the beginning," Bisciotti said. "I'm just very comfortable that it will get done."
Had Flacco been franchised, he would have earned at least $14.896 million this season.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

2012 NFL schedule: Newton vs. RG3 among anticipated dates

Anticipation was high for the release of the 2012 NFL schedule, and now it's out. We knew the season will open Sept. 5 with the Dallas Cowboys at the New York Giants. But that was just the appetizer.
Fans, coaches and players love seeing the schedule in its entirety, and that happened tonight. (Check out the week-by-week slate.) Look for predictions on how every team will fare. Those will include opinions on which teams have the toughest and easiest schedules.
Exhibitions open Aug. 5 with the Hall of Fame Game between the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals.
Here are 10 regular-season games we are eager to see:

Carolina Panthers at Washington Redskins (Nov. 4)

Assuming Robert Griffin III is drafted by the Redskins and becomes the starter, it will be Griffin versus Cam Newton. Get your DVR ready. Newton was rookie of the year and has said his game has reached another level. Griffin is expected to make the Redskins relevant again. Both players generate buzz. No matter what the records when they meet, they’ll make you watch.

Buffalo Bills at Houston Texans (Nov. 4)

Mario Williams, the offseason's biggest defensive free-agent signing, will return to Texas to face his former teammates. The Texans are coming off their first playoff appearance, but they had key offseason hits. In addition to Williams, they traded linebacker DeMeco Ryans to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Bills have been doormats for years, but they showed promise with a 5-2 start in 2011 before falling apart in the second half. Buffalo hopes to end its playoff drought the way the Texans did. This game will help determine if that happens.

Oakland Raiders at Cincinnati Bengals (Nov. 25)

Another big name faces his former team when Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer returns to Cincinnati. Palmer’s rep as franchise quarterback has taken a hit. He threw 16 interceptions last season after being dealt to the Raiders, and he failed to lead them to the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Andy Dalton helped the Bengals reach the postseason as a rookie. Palmer will definitely be stoked for this one, but so will Bengals fans.

San Francisco 49ers at New Orleans Saints (Nov. 25)

Their playoff game last season was a classic. It will be strength versus strength—the Saints’ high-powered offense against the 49ers’ tough defense. Nobody was able to contain the Saints at home last season, where they averaged 41 points per game. The 49ers will be pumped for the challenge.
Meanwhile, Saints coach Sean Payton will have to watch this one on television, serving a season-long suspension for his role in the team’s bounty program. We don't know yet who will coach the Saints, because interim Joe Vitt must serve a six-game suspension of his own.

New England Patriots at Baltimore Ravens (Sunday night, Sept. 23)

For the Ravens, nothing will remove the sting of losing last season’s AFC championship game to the Patriots. But beating the Patriots is always high on the Ravens’ wish list.

Denver Broncos at New England Patriots (Oct. 7)

Peyton Manning visits as the enemy again, but this time he’s playing for a team other than the Colts. Any time matchup featuring Tom Brady and Manning is must-see viewing. This will be a measuring stick as to whether the Broncos can be true contenders in the AFC.

New York Giants at San Francisco 49ers (Oct. 7)

Their meeting for the NFC championship was epic. Now former Giants Mario Manningham and Brandon Jacobs play for the 49ers. Eli Manning might even talk trash before this one. OK, maybe not.

New York Jets at Jacksonville Jaguars (Dec. 9)

Many thought Tim Tebow would be traded to Jacksonville. Instead, he’ll be there as a member of the Jets. Think there will be a few Tebow fans in the seats? And when this game takes place, will Tebow still be the backup or the starter?

Philadelphia Eagles at Pittsburgh Steelers (Oct. 7)

These Pennsylvania teams meet once every four years. Ben Roethlisberger and Michael Vick are superb at improvising, but both defenses love to get after quarterbacks.

Green Bay Packers at Seattle Seahawks (Monday, Sept. 24)

Matt Flynn gets his chance to compete against his former team. Is Flynn just a guy who looked good in the Packers’ system, or the real deal? We already know Aaron Rodgers is the real deal.

Baby is stolen, and the mother is dead at the exit of the hospital in Texas

Newborn Stolen Mom Shot
Members of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department work the crime scene where a mother was killed and her baby was kidnapped Tuesday, April 17, 2012, in Spring, Texas. A newborn boy was abducted from his screaming mother after she was repeatedly shot outside a suburban Houston pediatric center on Tuesday, according to investigators searching for the suspected shooter who sped off with the infant in a blood-stained Lexus.
SPRING, Texas — A newborn boy was abducted from his dying mother after she was repeatedly shot outside a suburban Houston pediatric center on Tuesday, according to investigators searching for the suspected shooter who sped off with the infant in a blood-stained Lexus.
Kayla Marie Golden, 28, was walking to her pickup truck after a checkup with her 3-day-old son, Keegan, when she had a verbal altercation with a woman in a Lexus parked next to her, Montgomery County sheriff's Lt. Dan Norris said.
Witnesses said the woman repeatedly shot Golden, took the infant and sped away, hitting they dying mother as she screamed "my baby" and tried to reach into the Lexus, Norris said. Witnesses also reported hearing as many as seven gunshots and said a man also was in the Lexus, which is blood-stained on the driver's side, Norris said.
The infant was last seen wearing a green-and-white one-piece outfit displaying the word "handsome."
The shooting happened just after 2 p.m. outside the Northwoods Pediatric Center in Spring, which is about 20 miles north of Houston. A statewide emergency alert has been issued for the baby.
Witnesses described the shooting suspect as a thin, gold-haired black woman, apparently in her late 20s or early 30s, Norris said. They also said the Lexus was sky blue or light green.
Joshua Jesson said he was in the clinic with his girlfriend when he heard gunshots. He said he saw the Lexus next to the pickup truck, then later looked back and saw the car was gone and a woman lying in the spot where the Lexus had been parked.
"I thought she just passed out. Then somebody ran in here and said, `Somebody got shot,'" he said.
Police quickly surrounded the clinic and much of the parking lot with crime-scene tape, and yellow markers were placed next to a purse and pair of brown sandals near a red pickup truck. Spent ammunition also was nearby.
The clinic is in an area thick with strip malls.
